Grading Scale
My grading scale is very simple. Students will be graded on a number of different things.
First, students must come to class prepared, which means they need to have their book, notebook, something to write with, and any homework that is due that day. Preparation will count for 5% of the students grade.
Second, we will have a number of quizzes throughout the course of this school year. They will be quizzes on current events, as well as information that we learn throughout the chapter. The quizzes will usually only consist of about 10-15 questions or so. Quizzes will count for 15% of the students grade.
Third, there will be a number of chapter tests in the class. The chapter tests will encompass everything that we have learned from whatever specific chapter we are learning. Tests will consist of Multiple Choice, Matching, True/False questions, and usually some short answers and one long essay. The tests could vary from time to time, but the things I have just listed will usually be the make up of the test. Tests will count for 30% of the students grade.
Fourth, the students will be doing a number of individual projects as well a group project of some sort. They will be expected to finish their projects and have them turned in on time. Projects will count for 15% of the students grade.
Fifth, homework is a very important part of this class. Students will be expected to do reading outside of class and answer questions for homework. Whenever we have an assignment due, we will go over it as a class. Homework will count for 10% of the students grade.
Sixth, a midterm and final will be given. The midterm will cover everything we went over from the first part of the school year, and the final will cover everything we go over after the midterm. Together these will count for 20% of the students grade.
The last thing that students will be graded on is participation. My class will most times not be a lecture, so I expect the students to come to class prepared to discuss the reading. While I will do a lot of talking and writing on the board, I expect the students to share some ideas as well. Participation will count as 5% of the students grade.
